MP calls on SSU head to “protect OCU activists and communities” from actions of UOC

MP from the For the Future party, Ihor Huz, who is actively involved in the expropriation of the Cathedral of the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, called on the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, to influence representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to the MP, the clergy and believers of the UOC violate the rights of activists and representatives of the OCU. He said this on January 15, 2025, from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, according to BUG.
“The Moscow Church in Ukraine continues to blackmail, intimidate and humiliate citizens with a pro-Ukrainian position. In the event of state inaction and the continuation of such arbitrariness on the part of supporters of the Moscow Church, the patriotic community of the region is ready for decisive action and rebuff to the “fifth column” in Volyn,” — the MP said.
In addition, Ihor Huz called on the SSU to take measures: to conduct a thorough check of all documentation, owners of land plots and buildings managed by UOC communities; to pay special attention to the possible involvement of structures that own property in the Zymnensky Convent of the UOC in Viktor Medvedchuk and Oksana Marchenko, or persons close to them.
“These shrines belong to the Ukrainian people, but they are controlled by the Moscow church. The situation is particularly cynical because the Zimnensky Monastery is closely connected to Medvedchuk. Such facts are unacceptable during the war with the Russian occupier,” — the MP said.
Recently, Ihor Huz threatened the Volodymyr-Volyn Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the “Cherkasy scenario” if the church refuses to voluntarily leave the complex of premises of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr-Volynskyi, which also houses the diocesan administration and theological school. Guz believes that the diocese’s attempts to defend its interests in the courts are a “stalling game,” and that it will not be difficult for it to take the cathedral by force.
