The court continued Metropolitan Theodosius' overnight house arrest

On January 23, 2025, the Sosnovsky District Court of Cherkasy held a regular hearing in one of the criminal cases brought against the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv. During the meeting, a representative of the prosecution requested the extension of the preventive measure in the form of night house arrest from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. This was reported by Suspilne.Cherkasy.

“There is reason to believe that the main witness is hiding. Also, during the court hearings, the defendant Denis Snigirev exerted pressure on witnesses,” — the prosecutor commented, arguing for the request to extend the preventive measure.

In turn, the defense of Metropolitan Feodosiy put forward its own arguments, accusing the prosecutor of lying and manipulation.

“Today, there are no grounds and risks cited by the prosecutor. The motion is based on lies and manipulation. Because the defendant did not put pressure on the witnesses and did not insult them,” — said lawyer Volodymyr Yudin.

However, after the deliberation room, the judge decided to extend the nightly house arrest from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for 60 days — until March 23.

As reported, recently Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv called on Ukrainian law enforcement officers to refuse to participate in the persecution of the Church. Metropolitan Theodosius recalled biblical examples when people, despite the duty to obey orders, preferred to preserve their personal piety in order not to share the afterlife of criminals.
