Archbishop Anastasios of Albania falls asleep in the Lord

On January 25, 2025, the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, ended his earthly journey in Athens. The First Hierarch died without regaining consciousness after more than 20 days in the hospital. This was reported by the press service of the Albanian Orthodox Church.

His Beatitude went to the Lord at the age of 95, after a long illness in the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

According to the press service of the Primate of the AOC, the deceased First Hierarch worked to restore the Orthodox Church in Albania, which he raised from the ruins after the fall of the atheistic regime. Through his tireless work, he rebuilt church life from its very foundations, built hundreds of churches, founded educational and philanthropic institutions, educated and ordained new clergy, and worked tirelessly and sacrificially for over thirty-three years.

During his lifetime, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios was particularly concerned about the unity of the Orthodox Church throughout the world and consistently and theologically reasoned expressed support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its Primate, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.

May the newly deceased His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios rest in peace!
