Funeral service for Primate of the Albanian Church, Archbishop Anastasios, held in Tirana

On January 28, 2025, the first funeral services were held at the Resurrection Cathedral of Tirana for the newly departed Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, whose body was brought to the Albanian capital in the morning. Thousands of Orthodox Albanians, top state officials and foreign guests come to the church to pay tribute to the Primate of the APC. This was reported by Orthodox Times.
It is reported that the Church of Greece handed over the body of Archbishop Anastasios to the Albanian Church in Kakavia, where the orchestra and the guard of honor of the 8th Infantry Brigade paid tribute to one of the most prominent hierarchs of Orthodoxy. The body was received by Metropolitan Dimitri of Gjirokaster, and hundreds of believers gathered at the border station to pay their last respects. After the reception, Metropolitan Dimitri of Gjirokaster performed a funeral service in memory of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
As reported earlier, the Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church decided to hold the funeral service for His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m., after the Divine Liturgy.
