Pope feels he may not survive the disease - media

Pope Francis’ health has deteriorated. There is a risk that the pontiff may not survive the disease. The head of the Vatican has been in the hospital for several days and has already prepared all the necessary documents and appointments in case of his death. This was reported by Politico.

According to the Vatican press service, the 88-year-old pontiff had part of his lung removed in his youth, and recently he fell ill with bronchitis, which turned into a “polymicrobial infection” with a “complex clinical picture.”

Pope Francis himself, the newspaper writes, feels that he is close to death. According to two people familiar with the situation, Francis was in severe pain and had privately expressed confidence that he would not make it this time. On Sunday, Gemelli’s doctors upset the Pope by forbidding him to deliver his regular morning Angelus homily, which he rarely missed even when hospitalized. He now acts solely on “medical advice.”

Due to his deteriorating health over the past month, Francis has also moved to complete key initiatives and appoint people who are sympathetic to him to key positions after a progressive papacy marked by sharp ideological differences.

As a reminder, on February 14, 2025, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, was hospitalized in an Italian clinic due to an exacerbation of bronchitis. It is noted that the pontiff complained of health problems that prevented him from preaching during general audiences.
