Metropolitan Theodosius is on trial in five criminal cases - media

The hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv, is being tried in five criminal proceedings. According to the published information, most of the cases were initiated against the hierarch as a result of investigative measures taken by the Security Service of Ukraine, and their consideration has been going on for more than two years. This was reported by Suspilne.Cherkasy.

It is reported that Metropolitan Theodosius received five suspicions from law enforcement officers. The first three were “for denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and inciting sectarian hatred”. The latter two concerned “violations of the equality of citizens based on their religious affiliation, committed repeatedly.” The SBU informed about the first one on February 20, 2023. It was then that it was reported that the head of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC was suspected. As the press service of the agency explained at the time, it was announced because Metropolitan Theodosius “in public statements among clergy and believers and in official comments, he spread calls that violate the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religion, and beliefs.”

As reported, recently Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv called on Ukrainian law enforcement officers to refuse to participate in the persecution of the Church. Metropolitan Theodosius recalled biblical examples when people, despite the duty to obey orders, preferred to preserve their personal piety in order not to share the afterlife of criminals.
