“The Pope may resign” - Cardinal Ravasi

Italian Roman Catholic Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has suggested that Pope Francis may resign due to health problems. The cardinal added that the pontiff would like to take part in the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council before leaving, but it is not known whether he will have time to wait for this moment physically. He said this in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

“I think it is possible. If he has serious difficulties in fulfilling his ministry, he will make his choice. Of course, he will make a decision, perhaps ask for advice, but he will make a decision on his own, according to his conscience. It is clear that his great desire is to at least take part in the Jubilee (1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council – ed.), the holy year dedicated to hope, which he considers his great moment,” – the cardinal said.

Earlier we reported that Pope Francis’ health had deteriorated. There is a risk that the pontiff may not survive the disease. The head of the Vatican has been in the hospital for several days and has already prepared all the necessary documents and appointments in case of his death.
