UGCC Synod meets in Canada

On February 22, 2025, the meetings of the Synod of the UGCC began in Brampton, Canada. The Synod is headed by the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk. The main topic of the meetings is the development of the UGCC in the diaspora. This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
“The Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada is trying in various ways to serve newly arrived Ukrainians and integrate them into parish communities. At the same time, new communities are being created where Ukrainians are concentrated, but there are no parishes near us. This often happens through the lease of Roman Catholic churches,” – the UGCC said in a press release.
Earlier, we reported that one of the previous meetings of the Synod of the UGCC was held in Washington. It is worth noting that in the summer of 2005 the UGCC officially moved its center from Lviv to the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Since then, Kyiv has been considered the center of the denomination, and the “patriarchal see” is the Kyivan Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. It is not clear why the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church holds synod meetings in the United States and Canada, so far from Ukraine.
