On the morning of February 28, Pope Francis’ health deteriorated sharply. The pontiff was connected to a ventilator due to problems with the respiratory system. This was reported by the Vatican press service.
“This afternoon, after a morning session of respiratory physiotherapy alternating with prayer in the chapel, the Holy Father had an isolated attack of bronchospasm, which, however, caused an episode of vomiting with inhalation and a sudden deterioration in the condition of the respiratory tract. The Holy Father was immediately aspirated and started on non-invasive mechanical ventilation with a good response to gas exchange. The Holy Father has always remained vigilant and focused while participating in therapeutic measures. Therefore, the prognosis remains restrained for now. In the morning he took communion,” – the press service said.
