Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky spoke about the measures the state is taking against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to limit its activities. He argues that there is a legal relationship between the UOC and the Russian Orthodox Church, and therefore the canonical Church in Ukraine is being significantly curtailed in its rights in order to finally ban it.
Zelensky tells Americans about religious freedom in Ukraine
On February 28, 2025, after the infamous meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump at the White House, the head of the Ukrainian state had a chance to talk to the president of the Evangelical Association, Billy Graham, and the head of the Samaritan’s Purse charity, Franklin Graham. During the conversation, Zelensky assured Graham of the high level of religious freedom in Ukraine. He wrote about this in his account on Х.
“In our country, we are doing everything to protect religious freedom, preserve normal life, restore what was destroyed by the Russians and not allow them to turn our cities and villages, our schools and churches into ashes,” — Zelensky assured.
