"Updated data": UOC churches suffer most from hostilities in Ukraine

Over the three years of the Russian-Ukrainian war, 642 religious buildings have been damaged or destroyed. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church suffers the most from the hostilities in Ukraine among all other denominations. This was reported on the Facebook page of the Religion on Fire project.

According to published data, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has lost partially or completely 339 churches. The second place after the UOC is occupied by religious buildings of various Protestant denominations – 176. The OCU is in third place with 58 lost churches. Roman and Greek Catholics lost 24 churches.

As we reported earlier, as of August 31, 2024, the majority of those killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war were clergymen and religious leaders who belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (32 people). The number of killed UOC clergy is three times higher than the same figure for the OCU, followed by representatives of the Evangelical Christians (14 people).
