As reported, on March 8, 2025, the leaders of the main Christian denominations in Syria, including the Patriarchate of Antioch, issued a joint statement in connection with the religious and ethnic cleansing carried out in Syria by radical Islamic groups. In a joint statement, the heads of the Syrian Christian churches strongly condemned the impunity of the violence taking place in the country’s cities, calling on the interim government to stop the bloodshed and return to the fragile peace in Syria. The statement was signed by His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, the head of the Syrian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Ignatius Ephraim II of Antioch and All the East, and Patriarch Youssef I Absi of the Melkite Church.
US State Department criticizes Islamists for violence in Syria

On March 9, 2025, the US State Department issued a statement criticizing radical Islamists who have organized religious and ethnic cleansing in Syria. The State Department called on the interim Syrian authorities to bring to justice all those involved in the rampant violence and banditry in the country and to establish peace. “The United States condemns the actions of radical Islamist terrorists, including foreign jihadists, who have been killing people in western Syria in recent days. The United States stands with Syria’s religious and ethnic minorities, including the Christian, Druze, Alawite, and Kurdish communities, and expresses its condolences to the victims and their families. The interim Syrian authorities must bring to justice those who committed these massacres of Syrian minorities,” – the statement reads.
