In a joint statement, the heads of the Syrian Christian churches strongly condemned the impunity of the violence taking place in the country’s cities, calling on the interim government to stop the bloodshed and return to the fragile peace in Syria. The statement was signed by His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, the head of the Syrian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Ignatius Ephraim II of Antioch and All the East, and Patriarch Youssef I Absi of the Melkite Church.

His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has issued an address to the Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Patriarch John, in connection with the tragic events in Syria. The Primate of the Russian Church assured Patriarch John of his support and welcomed his efforts to achieve peace in Syria. This is reported by the ROC DECR Communication Service.
“Having received disturbing news about the tragic events in Syria, about the deaths of many innocent people, including our fellow Christians, I would like to express my sincere support to Your Beatitude and the Apostolic Church of Great Antioch led by you. We fully support your efforts to protect the Christian community in Syria and to establish peace and unity in the country. I assure you, dear brother, that the Russian Orthodox Church, which in its history has also experienced bitter suffering, prays for the Sister Church of Antioch and its children in this time of trial. Enclosing for Your Beatitude’s information the text of the statement of our Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, I ask the Merciful Lord to save the Church of Antioch from all troubles and misfortunes, to comfort and bless His people with peace (Psalm 28.11) on the wounded Syrian land,” – the address reads.
