Head of Phanar expresses support for Patriarch of Antioch in connection with events in Syria

The Primate and Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople issued a joint statement in which they expressed support for His Beatitude Patriarch John of Antioch. The Phanar expressed hope for an immediate end to all acts of violence and bloodshed, the preservation of social peace in the war-torn country, and the protection of innocent civilians, as well as all religious and ethnic communities. This was reported by The Orthodox Times.
“The gravest human casualties, atrocities and brutal persecution of the Christian population, as well as other religious and ethnic minorities, testify to the deadlock that people and countries fall into when peace and justice do not prevail. It was predestined that Your Beatitude, so beloved by us, and the Holy Church under your leadership, should recently go through this painful trial, suffering from illness and deprivation. At all times, but especially in moments of turmoil and sorrow, the Church of Constantinople and we personally stand with Your Beatitude, your brother hierarchs, clergy and Orthodox believers with all our hearts and minds, who are so deeply loved and dear to us, with deep and sincere love and fervent prayer to the Lord of mercy, consolation and compassion, who strengthens the noble hand of your Love,” — the Patriarch of Constantinople said.
Earlier, we reported that His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia published an appeal to the Primate of the Antiochian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Patriarch John, in connection with the tragic events in Syria. The Primate of the Russian Church assured Patriarch John of his support and welcomed his efforts to achieve peace in Syria.
