The Albanian Church has announced the date of the election of a new Primate

The Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church has published the date of the upcoming election of a new Primate. According to the press service of the AOC, the election of the head of the Albanian Orthodox Church will take place in the coming days. The announcement was published on the official website of the AOC.

“The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania announces that the election of the new Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, who will succeed the late Archbishop Anastasios, will be held on the second Sunday of Lent on March 16, 2025, at the Synodal Center after the Divine Liturgy. The election process will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Statute of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania,” — the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that the hierarch of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan John of Korçën, is the most likely candidate for the post of the new Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church. The bishop is considered the spiritual successor of the late Archbishop Anastasios and has all the necessary qualities to fulfill the high priestly duties. In addition, Metropolitan John is preferred by the bishops of the Albanian Orthodox Church.
