OCU supporters seize another UOC church in Cherkasy

On March 18, 2025, supporters of the OCU seized the church of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Unburnt Bush” in Cherkasy. The church is located on the territory of the Cherkasy Institute of Fire Safety named after the Heroes of Chernobyl. This is reported by the media.
“Raiders from the OCU came to the shrine accompanied by the police with falsified documents for the parish. The illegal re-registration of the religious community took place on February 28. At the same time, the leadership of the Cherkasy Institute of Fire Safety stated that the contract with the church parish had allegedly expired “long ago.” The police demonstrated a letter for the right to use the “re-registered” parish signed by the rector,” — the report says.
As reported earlier, on March 17, 2025, supporters of the OCU, with the support of local authorities, made an unsuccessful attempt to seize the Peter and Paul Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Brovary (Kyiv region). The invaders had previously illegally re-registered the Peter and Paul religious community of the UOC to the OCU.
