Deputies of Lutsk City Council change their minds about praying before meetings

The Lutsk City Council has abandoned the practice of praying before meetings. The initiative to recite the Our Father prayer had been in place in the city council of the regional center of Volyn Oblast since 2024, but has now been abandoned as it did not find support among the majority of deputies. This is reported by Suspilne.Lutsk.
On March 26, city council member Roman Bondaruk announced the abandonment of the practice of reading a prayer before meetings of the Lutsk City Council on his Facebook page. According to the deputy, who last year initiated a joint prayer in the city council, the “Our Father” will no longer be heard in the city administration, as most deputies opposed it. “This indicates that the idea did not receive sufficient support, so I decided to stop this practice,” — Bondaruk wrote.
Bondaruk proposed a joint prayer in the Lutsk City Council on July 31, 2024, during the session. “For a flourishing city of pleasant discovery, we must learn to trust each other. Our virtues should be decency and integrity. We must teach the citizens to love their city,” — the deputy said at the time.
However, the topic of joint prayer was subsequently covered by local media on several occasions. In February 2025, Bondaruk apologized on his Facebook page for the mistakes he made while reciting the Our Father.
