Patriarch Bartholomew participated in a Muslim Iftar with Turkish President Erdogan

On March 27, 2025, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, for the second time this year, took part in the Muslim Iftar. This time, the head of Phanar held a gala dinner during the Muslim fast of Ramadan in the company of Turkish President Recep Erdogan. The dinner was held against the backdrop of ongoing anti-presidential protests in Turkey. This is reported by Romfea.gr.

It is reported that during the event, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of unity and brotherhood between different religious communities in Turkey. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of freedom of faith and conscience, noting that the Turkish government is working to ensure that all citizens can freely practice their religion.

“We, in Turkey, have an experience of peaceful coexistence for centuries, Muslims, Christians, and Jews live side by side in one homeland, under one sky,” — Erdogan said.

As a reminder, on March 9, 2025, the U.S. State Department issued a statement criticizing radical Islamists who have organized religious and ethnic cleansing in Syria. The State Department called on the interim Syrian authorities to bring to justice all those involved in the rampant violence and banditry in the country and to establish peace. According to the world media, the Islamists rampaging in Syria are supported by the Turkish government.
