Archbishop Makarios of Australia: "Orthodoxy and Hellenism – Two Wings of One Body"

In his sermon dedicated to Greece’s Independence Day, Archbishop Makarios of Australia emphasized the unbreakable bond between Orthodoxy and Hellenism. According to him, these two components are «like two wings of one body,» moving together through history.
«Orthodoxy and Hellenism, like two wings of one body, move together, inseparably and unbroken,» stated the hierarch.
He also quoted the words of Greek poet Kostis Palamas, emphasizing the importance of this unity: «Two freedoms unite as one.»
The Archbishop added that the desire for freedom, along with belief in the power of God’s word, became the foundation for Greece’s independence.
Earlier, we reported that priest, theologian, and publicist of the Greek Orthodox Church Anastasios Gotsopoulos called on the Local Orthodox Churches to speak out in defense of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The priest pointed out that in a situation where even the Anglican Church has taken notice of the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the silence of the Orthodox world is criminal.
