"Meet us in schools and universities": Chernivtsi Eparchy of OCU signs memorandum of cooperation with regional Department of Science and Education

On March 27, 2025, the Diocese of Chernivtsi of the OCU and the Department of Science and Education of the Chernivtsi Regional Administration signed a memorandum of cooperation. In the context of the signed agreement, the OCU will be able to implement educational projects in schools and universities in the region. This is reported by the organization’s official website.
“This step opens up new opportunities for the development of spiritual and moral education of students in Bukovyna. The document was signed by the head of the diocese, His Grace Bishop Theognost of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna, and the director of the Department of Education and Science, Oksana Sakrier. As part of the cooperation, it is planned to
— holding open meetings with pupils, students, teachers and clergy;
— Implementation of educational activities to popularize the historical and cultural heritage of the region;
— organization of summer spiritual and developmental camps;
— participation of the clergy in educational initiatives and volunteer activities;
— involvement of young people in charity, service and social activism,” — the statement reads.
As reported, the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration recently published information on how many communities and churches of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been re-registered in favor of the OCU since 2022. In total, the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration took away 25 churches from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the region.
