Synod of the Church of Cyprus announces fundraising to support Christians in Syria

On April 1, 2025, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus met to announce a nationwide fundraiser in support of the Christians of Syria. The campaign will be held on the fifth Sunday of Lent, April 6, 2025, in all parishes of Cyprus. The official website of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus reported.
“In these days we are all witnessing the grief, pain and suffering of our Orthodox brethren in Syria. The Patriarchate of Antioch has suffered a severe blow in recent years due to the drastic reduction of its Orthodox flock. The Church of Cyprus, which knows firsthand the persecution of its Christ-following flock from its native land, the ongoing occupation of 37% of its native land, the looting and destruction of over 560 of its churches and the growing threat of occupation of all its land by Turkey, supports its sister Antiochian Orthodox Church and Christians of other denominations in the region with all its might. For this reason, the Holy Synod has decided to hold a fundraiser in all the churches of Cyprus in support of the suffering Christians of Syria today, on the 5th Sunday of Easter, April 6, 2025, in order to give our people the opportunity to express their feelings of practical support for the severely suffering Christians of the neighboring country,” – reads the published statement.
