Vatican discusses ending war in Ukraine with Russia
On April 4, 2025, a telephone conversation took place between Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, and Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The parties discussed the details of the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This is reported by the press service of the Vatican.
It is reported that the conversation focused on the overall picture of world politics, with special attention paid to the situation with the war in Ukraine and some initiatives aimed at ending hostilities. The Holy See’s readiness to continue its humanitarian efforts in the exchange of prisoners was reaffirmed. In addition, some issues concerning religious life and, in particular, the situation of the Catholic Church in the Russian Federation were also addressed.
