OCU supporters seize another UOC church in Kyiv region

Early in the morning, on April 8, 2025, supporters of the OCU seized another church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Kyiv region. This time, the victim of the seizure was St. Michael’s Church in the village of Svitilnia of the Boryspil Diocese of the UOC. This was reported by the Telegram channel “First Cossack”.

It is reported that the raiders from the OCU came to the church early in the morning when it was still dark outside. Armed with tools, the invaders broke down the front door of the church and, having changed the locks, took possession of the premises. The seizure took place in the presence of law enforcement officials.

It is also worth noting that before the incident, the rector and believers of the UOC community managed to keep the church under their control for more than six months. Adherents of the OCU, using the favor of local authorities, re-registered the St. Michael’s community of the UOC in the village of Svitilnia in August 2024. Since then, the raiders have not been able to take possession of the religious building, which is why they apparently used a favorite scheme of the OCU – the seizure of the church at a time when there is no one to defend it for objective reasons.

It should be reminded that on April 1, 2025, supporters of the OCU, with the physical support of militants from the right-wing radical organization “Trident named after Stepan Bandera,” carried out a raider-style takeover of the Holy Assumption Church of the Chernivtsi-Bukovinian Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Dubovtsi, Chernivtsi region.
