Ukrainian Greek Catholics performed cultic activities in Crete

On April 12, 2025, religious events organized by Ukrainian Greek Catholics took place on the island of Crete (Greece). To hold them, the Church of St. John the Baptist in Heraklion was allocated for the needs of the UGCC. The events were attended by representatives of the Ukrainian Consulate in Crete and members of the diaspora. This is reported by the website of the UGCC.

“Where there are Ukrainians, there is always a need for spiritual support. This is a request from the people themselves, who deeply realize the value of faith, especially when they are in a foreign land. They do their best to preserve Ukrainian traditions and culture, and organize children’s education in Ukrainian Saturday schools. The only thing they lack is the constant presence of a priest who understands them, with whom they can share their experiences and participate in the Holy Sacraments, which are a source of salvation for each of us,” — said UGCC cleric Ihor Posolenyk.

It is worth noting that earlier, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, complained about the active activities of Ukrainian Orthodox Church clergymen abroad. Shevchuk cited Germany as an example, where, as he said, “pro-Russian oligarchs” who pay for the missionary activities of the UOC among Ukrainian refugees who left the country due to the Russian-Ukrainian war have gone.
