In Kremenchuk, OCU unsuccessfully tries to sue a church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

The religious organization “Stavropegial Religious Community of the Holy Trinity Parish of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine”, created to implement a raider scheme against the Holy Trinity Church of the UOC in Kremenchuk (Poltava region), is unsuccessfully trying to prove in court the fact that the Trinity community of the UOC has transferred to the OCU. This is reported by the regional edition of the Kremenchuk newspaper.

The OCU is outraged by the fact that the court refuses to recognize the ownership of the Holy Trinity Church of the UOC in Kremenchuk for their organization, expressing reasonable doubt as to whether the meeting for the transfer to the OCU was held legitimately. The OCU lawyer claims that the UOC community’s petition to protect its own interests is an attempt to delay the case.

«In this case, we need to establish whose property is owned and are there any obstacles? The property is registered by law with the religious organization “Stavropegial religious community of the Holy Trinity parish of the OCU in Kremenchuk”, and the former members of the religious community who belong to the UOC-MP are obstructing,» — said OCU lawyer Ruslan Lazorenko.

In turn, lawyers of the UOC claim that the decision to transfer the Trinity community of the UOC to the OCU was made in violation of the law, therefore it is illegitimate.

“If the court in Poltava recognizes that the community did not transfer, then there will be no need to consider this lawsuit,” — said UOC lawyer Yaroslav Kovalchuk.

At the end of the meeting, the judge listened to the arguments and went to the conference room, from where he returned with a ruling granting the motion of UOC lawyer Kovalchuk. The OCU side said it would appeal the decision.

As reported, on April 10, 2025, the Northern Economic Court of Appeal of Kyiv issued a decision allowing the Kyiv Metropolis of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to participate in the case of unilateral termination of the agreement between the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” and the Monastery of the UOC Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which provides the right to use the Lower Lavra.
