“He was a true friend of Orthodoxy”: Patriarch Bartholomew expresses condolences on the death of Pope Francis

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople has expressed his condolences over the death of Pope Francis. The head of the Phanar called the Pope “a true friend of Orthodoxy” and “a supporter of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.” The full text of the condolences is published on the Phanar’s official website.
«Throughout these twelve years of his papacy, he has been a faithful friend, companion and supporter of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a true friend of Orthodoxy, a true friend of the Lord’s least brothers, on whose behalf he often spoke, acted and even washed their feet in an example of true humility and brotherly love. […] Indeed, he was very eager to come this year to jointly celebrate this historic anniversary (the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council — ed.), and he stated this many times in the media and to representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate who visited him in Rome from time to time,» — the text of condolence reads.
