Head of the UGCC called on religious leaders worldwide for a joint appeal to end the fighting in Ukraine

In his traditional address on the occasion of the 166th week of full-scale war in Ukraine, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, called on religious leaders around the world to make a joint statement and join in specific actions that would contribute to ending the fighting in Ukraine. This was reported on the official UGCC website.
An interesting fact is that until recently, Shevchuk believed that Ukraine should refuse peace talks with Russia. In his opinion, the peace format that is being imposed on Ukraine behind its back is unacceptable and unjust.
«Let us do everything to make the weapons fall silent on our long-suffering land,» the Head of the UGCC now emphasizes, addressing leaders of various religious traditions. He highlighted that this year Ukraine is celebrating the Resurrection of Christ for the fourth time amid an ongoing war.
Earlier, we reported that Sviatoslav Shevchuk initiated making some Ukrainian shrines, including the Pochaiv Lavra, open for prayer to believers of different Christian denominations. He announced this on April 4 in Lutsk during the presentation of his book «Ukraine Stands! Ukraine Fights! Ukraine Prays!», which took place at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.
