A Protestant church in Germany held a “worship service” in the style of the movie “Star Wars”

On May 4, 2025, an evangelical pastor held a cult event in the style of the Star Wars movie in the church of Bensberg in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Pastor Samuel Derr was dressed as one of the characters in the movie and “fought” with parishioners with laser swords. This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.

It is reported that Samuel Derr was dressed as a Jedi and waved a laser sword, staging episodes from the movie “Star Wars”. The temple itself was decorated in the form of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft, and some parishioners decided to play along with the pastor and also came to the “service” dressed as the movie characters.

According to Dierre, this approach to religious events is intended to increase the interest of young people in the church. Through the popularization of pop culture in the church, young people will allegedly be able to get to know religion better.

Earlier, we reported that the Ukrainian diaspora in Chilliwack (Canada) put up for sale the local St. Demetrius Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada (Patriarchate of Constantinople). The reason for the sale of the religious building is low attendance and, as a result, the inability to maintain the church financially. St. Dmitry’s Church in Chilliwack is to be sold for $750,000.
