OCU convenes Bishops' Council and plans to celebrate 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council

On May 12, 2025, a meeting of the Synod of the OCU was held. During the event, a number of issues were considered, in particular, preparations for the Council of Bishops and the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. It is reported that the Synod of the OCU decided to convene the Council of Bishops on July 14, 2025. In addition, on July 15, the organization planned to combine the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council and the 1037th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus.

As reported, on March 19, 2025, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held. One of the decisions taken at the Synod of the UOC was the intention to celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council at the church-wide level.
