Epiphaniy Dumenko congratulated the new Pope Leo XIV

The head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Epiphaniy Dumenko, congratulated Catholics on the election of the new head of the Roman Catholic Church — Leo XIV. The respective message was posted on his official social media accounts on May 8, 2025. This was reported by the information source Orthodox Times.

Dumenko noted that Leo XIV, the newly elected Bishop of Rome, head of the Vatican and the Holy See, was chosen during the conclave in the Sistine Chapel by 133 cardinals. According to the hierarch, this event is important not only for Catholics but for the entire Christian world.

“I congratulate our brothers and sisters in Christ — Catholics of both Eastern and Latin rites — on the election of the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, Leo XIV,” the message said.

Epiphaniy also wished the newly elected Pontiff a fruitful ministry for the good of all Christians, for the witness of the Gospel, and for the strengthening of peace and goodwill throughout the world.

It should be noted that Pope Leo XIV confirmed that the Vatican is working on organizing his meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Pontiff made this announcement during his first official meeting with the media representatives on May 12.
