Emir Kusturica's film about the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church shown in Paris

A screening of the documentary by the famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica “People of Christ. Our Time”. The film tells about the Ukrainian church crisis and its consequences, which resulted in the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is reported by EADaily.

It is reported that the creators of the documentary project also acted as its heroes. Among them are the Orthodox priest, philosopher and poet Mario Selvini from Genoa, Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Irinej of Bačka, Cambridge University lecturer Vukan Markovic, and producer, a native of Donetsk region Yuriy Bardash.

Orthodox missionary and philosopher Ruslan Kalynchuk from Ivano-Frankivsk and priest Mykola Mohylnyi from Kyiv told about the pressure on the canonical UOC and its believers in Ukraine in the documentary. The screening in Paris was a premiere for Western Europe, and the audience was able to watch the film with Russian dubbing and French subtitles.

“This is the first screening of the film not only in France, but also in Western Europe. I would like to hope that this initiative will become a warning testimony and will open the eyes of the French audience to the difficult truth about the church schism in Ukraine,” – the organizers of the event said.

As reported, on June 1, 2025, a theological conference was held in Greece on the Ukrainian church issue. The event was organized in the city of Piraeus by the Metaxis Union of Theologians with the support of the head of the local diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus. The participants of the conference made presentations on the consequences of the granting of the Tomos of autocephaly to the OCU by Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.
