UGCC Hieromonk Shows Censer Made from a Hand Grenade

Hieromonk of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Luka Mykhailovych, stirred up a strong reaction on social media by posting photos of an unusual censer made from the body of a hand grenade. According to him, the item was sent from the front lines and is a “trench craftsmen’s creation.” The UGCC cleric shared the post featuring the “grenade censer” on his Facebook page.

The worshiper expressed approval of this “creativity,” noting that he liked the censer specifically for its simplicity: “without invented aesthetics, gilding, or unnecessary decorations.”

The post provoked lively responses from social media users. Commenters reacted to the “censer-grenade” with irony and humor: “Its look totally changes the phrase ‘I’m about to swing the censer!’” , “A bombastic censer” ,“I’d say even more — explosive”.

The official stance of the UGCC on the use of such a “liturgical instrument” remains unknown.

Earlier, it was also reported that Vakhtang Kipshidze, Deputy Head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, drew attention to the role of the Greek Catholic Church in the ongoing repression against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Kipshidze stated that the UGCC is frequently the ultimate beneficiary of the persecution targeting the UOC.
