Police Blocked Streets in Chernivtsi During Attempted Seizure of UOC Cathedral

On June 17, a large-scale police operation took place in Chernivtsi during an attempted takeover of the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. According to eyewitnesses, law enforcement surrounded the church, and access to several city districts was temporarily restricted. This was reported by the Telegram channel Dozor on «Pershyi Kozatskyi».

According to available information, throughout the confrontation between UOC believers and representatives of the OCU, police blocked the blocks surrounding the cathedral. It is also reported that entrances to Chernivtsi from the direction of Hertsa, Hlyboka, and Novoselytsia were closed.

Law enforcement officials have not made public comments on their actions, but numerous photo and video materials indicate an unprecedented deployment of forces during the operation.

As a reminder, after an unsuccessful attempt to seize the Holy Spirit Cathedral of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which OCU supporters tried to carry out the day before, the Chernivtsi police received more than a dozen reports related to the incident. Police later stated that they had managed to keep the situation under control and prevent an escalation of the conflict.
