Pope Leo XIV Reaffirms Commitment to Closer Ties with the Ecumenical Patriarchate

Pope Leo XIV has reaffirmed the Vatican’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He made this statement during a meeting held as part of the traditional exchange of delegations between the Roman and Constantinopolitan Churches, according to Vatican News.

In his address, the pontiff stated:

“I assure you of my desire to continue efforts toward the restoration of full visible Eucharistic communion between our Churches. This can only come about with God’s help, through a steadfast commitment to respectful listening and fraternal dialogue.”

It was also previously reported that Pope Leo XIV confirmed his support for the idea of unifying the date of Easter, a proposal earlier voiced by his predecessor, Pope Francis. The pontiff believes that the First Ecumenical Council, whose anniversary is being celebrated this year, should serve as an example and foundation for further development of ecumenical dialogue.
