The Romanian Church will continue to develop the Bessarabian Metropolis in Moldova

The Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church has decided to continue financial support and development of the Bessarabian Metropolis in Moldova. The Romanian Orthodox Church has approved new methods of financing the Bessarabian Metropolis due to the fact that “international funding has ceased.” This was reported by the press service of the Romanian Patriarchate.

It is reported that “the Synod approved mechanisms for financial support of the social mission ‘Diakonia’ of the Bessarabian Metropolis, whose projects have suffered from the cessation of international funding.”

At the same time, it should be noted that representatives of the Bessarabian Metropolis in Moldova have entered into open confrontation with the Orthodox Church of Moldova (part of the Moscow Patriarchate). We recently reported that on June 29, 2025, supporters of the Bessarabian Metropolis (Romanian Patriarchate) attempted to seize a church of the Orthodox Church of Moldova in the village of Grinauti, Riscani district. According to eyewitnesses, the clergy of the Romanian Patriarchate were actively assisted by the Moldovan police and local authorities.
