Religious scholar on the revocation of the citizenship of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: “Such actions will cause a negative reaction in the international community”

Ukrainian religious scholar, OCU lobbyist, and head of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy at the National Transport University, Iryna Bohachevska, claims that revoking the citizenship of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will cause a negative reaction in the international community. Bohachevska asserts that Ukraine will have to justify its actions regarding the UOC, since the US and Europe do not understand the essence of the state-church conflict. She spoke about this in a comment to DW.

«The only problem I see in this for the Ukrainian side is that such actions will undoubtedly cause a negative reaction in the international community. We, Ukrainians, need to conduct explanatory work aimed specifically at foreign countries. We need to make it clear that this is not a fight against religion or believers. This is a fight against an affiliated structure of the aggressor state. Ukraine, which is trying to fight the fifth column in Ukrainian society, is faced with the fact that Europe and the US do not understand how politicized the church can be,» — the religious scholar noted.

Earlier, we reported that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church intends to challenge the termination of the citizenship of the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry, in court both in Ukraine and internationally. This was stated by the administrator of the UOC, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich), during a recent sermon.
