The Pope announced his intention to visit Phanar

Pope Leo XIV has announced his intention to visit Turkey. The pontiff’s visit to the Patriarchate of Constantinople will take place in a few months and will be timed to coincide with the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council. This was reported by Kath.Net.

It is reported that during a meeting between the head of the Vatican and representatives of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and Roman Catholic dioceses in the United States, the pontiff announced his intention to visit Phanar. Pope Leo links this visit to the celebration of the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, pointing out that joint celebrations should be another step towards unity.

“I hope to meet you again in a few months to participate in the ecumenical celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of the Council of Nicaea,” – said the Pope.

It was also previously reported that Pope Leo XIV confirmed his support for the idea of unifying the date of Easter, a proposal earlier voiced by his predecessor, Pope Francis. The pontiff believes that the First Ecumenical Council, whose anniversary is being celebrated this year, should serve as an example and foundation for further development of ecumenical dialogue.
