Greek church media reported the detention of a UOC metropolitan by TCC employees

The Greek church news agency Romfea published a news item about the detention of Metropolitan Bogolep of Alexandria, a member of the Territorial Center for the Recruitment of Hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, by law enforcement officers. The publication noted that the incident involving the detention of the UOC bishop is one of the elements of state pressure on the Church. The publication is available on the Romfea.gr website.

“The incident highlights the precarious position of the clergy in Ukraine, as it is noted that Metropolitan Bogolep, like other clergymen, is not exempt from conscription. This means that he can be sent to the front on general terms, which is a cause for concern in the Orthodox community. The situation with Metropolitan Alexander is part of a broader and systematic campaign of persecution launched by the Ukrainian authorities against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Ukrainian Church, being the largest religious community in the country, is under scrutiny because of its alleged ties to Russia,” – the publication notes.

Earlier, the Greek Orthodox publication KATANIXI criticized the OCU for joint religious events with Ukrainian Greek Catholics. The media drew attention to the recent joint “consecration” by representatives of the OCU and the UGCC of a site for construction at the Omega Special Training Center, located in Kyiv. The authors of the publication pointed out that such cases are no longer rare for the OCU and once again indicate that a plan to create a new union between Orthodox Christians and Catholics is being implemented in Ukraine under the control of the Phanar.
