One of the active opponents of the UOC arrested for drunk driving incident

In Kyiv, blogger Denys Koshelnyk — one of the most vocal participants in provocations near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — has been arrested. He was involved in a traffic accident while under the influence of alcohol, attempted to flee the scene, and resisted police officers. It was later revealed that Koshelnyk had also been on the wanted list for evading military service. This was reported by the UOC’s Information and Education Department.

The incident occurred on July 23 on Mykhaila Boichuka Street, where Koshelnyk, driving a Toyota Sequoia SUV, ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. He behaved aggressively during the interaction with law enforcement, attempted to strike an officer, and was taken into custody.

Investigators confirmed that Koshelnyk had been wanted since April this year for draft evasion. After his arrest, he was handed over to the State Bureau of Investigation. Media reports indicate that this is not his first legal offense — previous incidents involved fake license plates, faking illness to avoid service, and public discrediting of the police.

His ex-wife, Hanna Pavlivna, had earlier accused him of embezzling donations intended for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, claiming he gambled away the funds and committed acts of domestic violence. The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has ordered him into custody.

The UOC also reminded the public that in 2023, the blogger actively spread false claims about the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and its monastics.

In addition, the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has warned local faithful about the actions of a provocateur-religious scholar operating in the region. The warning concerns Oleksandr Brodetskyi, a local activist and OCU lobbyist who systematically promotes anti-UOC narratives in the media while staging deceptive «exposés» involving Russian literature he allegedly «discovers» in UOC churches.
