The Ukrainian Orthodox Church remains the largest denomination in Ukraine, - media reports

Despite pressure and an effective ban by the Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church remains the largest religious organization in Ukraine in terms of the number of religious communities and followers. Even in Kyiv, the number of UOC churches is twice as high as that of the OCU. This was reported by TASS.
It is reported that the number of religious organizations of the UOC in 2025 is 10,118, including 9,792 religious communities (parishes). The schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which the authorities are trying to promote, has 8,511 organizations, including 8,291 communities. At the same time, at the beginning of 2022, there were 8,498 parishes in the UOC, while in 2025, as already mentioned, there were 9,792. Thus, the number of parishes of the UOC has even increased.
In the capital of Ukraine, there are also more parishes of the UOC than of the OCU — 267 against 192. In the eastern part of Ukraine, the UOC has two to three times more parishes than the schismatics. For example, in the Dnipropetrovsk region (636 against 241), Odessa (546 against 146), Kharkiv (364 against 83), Sumy (391 against 127). The OCU has more parishes only in western Ukraine — in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions. However, in the Zakarpattia region, the UOC significantly prevails with 618 communities against 107 in the OCU.
We previously reported that more than half of Ukrainian citizens do not support interference in the internal affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is evidenced by the results of a sociological study conducted by the SOCIS Center in June 2025.
