We will remind you that the Khmelnytskyi Regional Police published a refutation of the information that a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been killed on the territory of the Holy Cross Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the city of Starokostiantyniv. The source was local city council deputy Serhiy Zhmurko, who wrote on his social media that the abbot of the monastery allegedly beat the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier to death after drinking alcohol with him.

On August 7, 2025, Metropolitan Victor (Kotsaba) of Khmelnytskyi and Starokostiantyniv visited the Holy Cross Monastery in Starokostiantyniv, where an incident occurred that led to the death of a soldier. The hierarch offered a memorial prayer for the deceased and announced to the brethren new personnel decisions regarding the leadership of the monastery. This was reported on the official website of the Khmelnytskyi Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
«His Eminence performed a memorial service for soldier Mykola, who tragically died on August 3 on the territory of the monastery. The bishop prayed according to the monastery’s evening service statute, after which he spoke with the brethren and clergy. In particular, Vladyka discussed organizational issues of monastic life with the inhabitants of the monastery and announced that a new abbot of the Starokostiantynivsky Monastery would be appointed in the near future,» — the diocese’s press service said in a statement.
