“Quiet expansion”: The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church has opened its first Catholic school in Zaporizhia

On September 1, 2025, the Don Bosco Catholic School was officially opened in Zaporizhia. The fully-fledged educational institution, which was built in 14 months, will operate under the auspices and spiritual guidance of the Donetsk Exarchate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. This was reported by the organization’s press service.

“This school has become a safe space for children, where they can receive a quality education based on Christian values. The celebrations began with a festive assembly that brought together 1st and 2nd grade students, their parents, relatives, and teachers. The event was attended by Bishop Maxim Ryabukha, Exarch of Donetsk, Father Roman Vovk, rector of the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Sister Khristofora Bushyn, provincial superior of the Sisters Servants in Ukraine, as well as clergy of the Exarchate,” – the release notes.

The school, which took 14 months to build, was put into operation in August 2025. It is equipped with modern equipment, has a shelter, heating, ventilation, and a cozy courtyard. Director Vitalia Vovk expressed her gratitude to donors, patrons, parents, and teachers for their support in creating this unique educational space.

As previously reported, construction of a new Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will begin soon in the Obolon district of Kyiv. The building, which is planned to be constructed in a futuristic style, will have a “public space” and a “shelter.”
