Representative of the DECR of the Russian Orthodox Church took part in the meeting of the WCC with the Pope

On September 3, 2025, Deputy Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Archpriest Igor Vyzhnov, took part in a meeting between Pope Leo XIV and members of the Joint Working Group of the World Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. Archpriest Igor is a member of this Working Group. This was reported by the Communications Service of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church.
It is reported that the meeting took place in the Vatican. The audience was held as part of the Plenary Meeting of the Working Group, which took place on September 1-3, 2025, in Rome. The current meeting was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of this platform for inter-Christian dialogue.
Protopriest Igor Vyzhanov conveyed greetings to the head of the Roman Catholic Church from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, as well as from the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk.
We recall that on July 26, 2025, a meeting took place at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican between the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, and the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV. During the meeting, among other things, the issue of persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was also discussed.
