The Kyiv Theological Academy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will host a conference dedicated to the First Ecumenical Council

On October 21, 2025, the Kyiv Theological Academy will host the XVI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Spiritual and Secular Education: History of Relations – Present Day – Prospects.” The event will address a number of issues related to the history and current state of affairs in the Orthodox Church. This was reported by the press service of the KTAiS.
It is reported that the traditional annual conference at the Kyiv Theological Schools plans to pay special attention to the First Ecumenical Council and its decisions. The conference will also feature sections for graduate students and students of all areas of theological science (biblical studies, theology, patrology, church history, and practical church disciplines). Teachers, graduate students, and students of theological and secular educational institutions, as well as specialists in the fields of theology, philosophy, history, and pedagogy, are invited to participate in the conference.
Recall that the International Orthodox-Lutheran Commission for Theological Dialogue recommended that Lutheran communities refrain from using the “filioque” (the Western Christian doctrine that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son — ed.) during worship services. The organizers called for a return to the original Greek text, in which the Holy Spirit “proceeds from the Father” and not “from the Father and the Son.”
