Roman Catholics in Lviv celebrated the 650th anniversary of the Lviv Metropolis of the Roman Catholic Church

On September 6, 2025, the Roman Catholic Metropolis of Lviv celebrated its 650th anniversary. In connection with the celebrations, festive religious events were held in the Latin Cathedral of Lviv, in which, among others, representatives of the OCU took part. This was reported by the press service of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine.

It is reported that Catholic bishops from Italy and Poland joined the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the Lviv (Galician) Metropolis of the Roman Catholic Church. The photo also shows the former head of the UAOC, and now the hierarch of the OCU, Makariy Maletich. It is noteworthy that the press release does not mention the presence of representatives of the UGCC at the events.

Earlier, the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, stated that the organization he leads is engaged in the revival of the ancient Christian center in Kyiv. Shevchuk called on Rome, Constantinople, and Moscow to come to terms with this fact, and on the OCU to unite with the UGCC to achieve common goals.
