The head of the Phanar held a meeting with the US President

on September 15, 2025, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople was received at the White House in Washington, D.C., where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The event took place in the Oval Office and lasted more than half an hour. This is reported by The Orthodox Times.
It is reported that during the conversation Patriarch Bartholomew congratulated the President on his initiatives and efforts to promote world peace, especially in Ukraine. They also discussed the situation of Christians in the Middle East.
In addition, special attention was paid to the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV of Rome to Turkey to jointly celebrate with the Patriarchate of Constantinople the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council in Nicea this year.
Recall, on September 14, 2025, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople began his visit to the United States. At the Washington airport, the head of the Phanar was met by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, representatives of the clergy, the diplomatic corps and the Greek diaspora.
