In Pochaev Lavra searches are conducted in a case of fraud on a particularly large scale

Ukrainian law enforcers are conducting searches on the territory of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra in Ternopil Region. The investigative actions are being carried out as part of a pre-trial investigation into criminal proceedings opened under the article on fraud committed on a particularly large scale.

As Ukrinform reports with reference to the speaker of the GU of the National police in the Ternopil region Sergey Kreta, searches are conducted by officers of the investigative department of the Kremenets district police department. In the course of the events, documents are seized on the territory of the Lavra. Procedural support in this case is carried out by officers of the Kremenets district department of the SBU Department in Ternopil region. Criminal proceedings were opened on the grounds of an offense under Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine(Fraud committed on a large scale or by an organized group).

We shall remind you that earlier we reported that the Shumsky district court fined the head of the state registration department of the Shumsky city council Roman Pilipchuk 68 thousand hryvnias for the fact that the official, according to the prosecution, illegally registered several real estate objects located on the territory of the Holy Assumption Pochaev Lavra in favor of the Pochaev Holy Assumption Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
