"Reserve" Chernihiv actively holds secular events in the Cathedral taken from the UOC

National Historical and Architectural Reserve “Chernihiv Ancient” continues to organize secular events in the ancient Transfiguration Cathedral, which was taken away by the authorities from the Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2023. This time in the temple was organized presentation of a special issue of the cultural magazine “Antikvar”, dedicated to the national monument of architecture – Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral XI century. About it reports “Ukrinform”.
According to the “reserve”, the magazine with a total volume of almost 200 pages for the first time comprehensively reveals the history of the monument, which is equal to Sophia of Kiev. It contains 18 articles and a large number of photos of Spas Chernihivskyi in different years, including previously unknown.
“The publication includes the latest research, new narratives that help to take a broader look at the Spas, not limiting ourselves only to its significance as a spiritual shrine. This work serves as strong evidence that Ukraine has more than a thousand years of history. It emphasizes the importance of cherishing our identity and unwavering fight for our sovereignty,” the scholars emphasized.
Nevertheless, the event was not limited to the presentation of the mentioned journal. The organizers arranged an exhibition in the temple, as well as musical and instrumental accompaniment. At the same time, as repeatedly stated in the “reserve”, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral – after its use by the Chernihiv diocese of the UOC – is “in an emergency condition”, in connection with which the temple was not transferred to the balance of any of the religious organizations of the city.
Recall, in Chernihiv began to develop scientific and design documentation for the restoration of the Transfiguration Cathedral – an outstanding monument of national importance of architecture of the XI century, which some time ago was taken away by the state from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Ministry of Culture has allocated UAH 1,498,600 for this purpose, which will be used for a comprehensive survey of the building, restoration of the facades and improvement of the adjacent territory.
