Robert Amsterdam: "Ukrainians desperately want peace, while Zelensky's entourage steals Western aid"

Robert Amsterdam, an international lawyer for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, harshly criticized the Ukrainian leadership. The lawyer spoke about the persecution of believers, high levels of corruption, forced mobilization and the desire of the people of Ukraine for peace, and expressed support for Donald Trump’s peace initiatives. He said that on Piers Morgan’s program.
Amsterdam, who represents the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the international stage, spoke about his experience in the country. «I represent the persecuted Church in Ukraine, where priests are beaten and churches are seized,» he said. The lawyer also mentioned that he himself was subjected to pressure from the special services for his human rights activities and emphasized that the UOC believers are dying at the front.
The lawyer paid special attention to the internal situation in Ukraine, which he called «terrible.» According to him, the country is run as a «typical one-party state» and faith in the government has been undermined. «They are kidnapping people from the streets to send them to the front lines,» Amsterdam noted. He also bluntly accused President Zelensky’s inner circle of stealing Western financial aid: «They steal American and European money that was actually allocated to their country to fight Russian aggression.»
The key thesis of the speech was the assertion of the Ukrainians’ desire to end the conflict. «The people I talk to in Ukraine desperately want peace and to explore the possibility of a ceasefire,» the lawyer emphasized. In this context, he criticized the position of European countries: «Europeans are very belligerent when it comes to frozen Russian assets and young Ukrainian soldiers. But they are not belligerent at all when it comes to their own money and their own young people.»
In conclusion, Robert Amsterdam praised Donald Trump’s efforts for a peaceful resolution. «I think President Trump should be commended for trying to put together a plan. We are talking about peace for the first time thanks to the fact that President Trump came to the office,» he concluded.
We will remind, earlier American evangelist Mark Burns, whom the media call a spiritual adviser to Donald Trump, sharply criticized the 28-point US peace plan to settle the war in Ukraine, calling it a dangerous document. In his opinion, the plan could send an alarming signal to the global community and embolden authoritarian regimes. The statement was made against the background of the ongoing negotiations in Geneva and the European Union’s proposal of an alternative settlement plan.
