'Trump's cleric' criticized U.S. peace plan for Ukraine

American evangelist Mark Burns, whom the media call Donald Trump’s spiritual adviser, has sharply criticized the 28-point US peace plan to settle the war in Ukraine, calling it a dangerous document. In his opinion, the plan could send an alarming signal to the global community and embolden authoritarian regimes. The statement came against the background of the ongoing negotiations in Geneva and the European Union’s proposal of an alternative settlement plan.

In his publication in the social network X Burns expressed dissatisfaction with the American initiative. At the same time, he positively assessed Trump’s statement that the plan is not final and can be changed, calling such flexibility a manifestation of “wise leadership.” The pastor drew a historical parallel to 1939, suggesting that Nazi Germany’s invasion of Poland was made possible by the international community’s lack of response.

Burns emphasized that any peace plan must be based on moral responsibility and avoid concessions that could encourage further aggression. He stated that “peace without justice is not true peace,” and that a lack of response to criminal acts is tantamount to complicity.

This criticism came in the context of a robust diplomatic effort. On Sunday, November 23, peace talks were held in Geneva, during which Ukraine and the United States agreed to continue working on joint proposals. On the same day, the leaders of the European Union presented their version of the peace plan, which, unlike the US approach, emphasizes respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

We shall remind you that earlier the Financial Times reported on a new draft peace plan for Ukraine, which was prepared jointly by representatives of the United States and Russia. According to the publication dated November 19, 2025, the 28-point document was handed over to the Kiev authorities and contains conditions concerning the status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
